Get to know Okapion through Nigel's experience

Every year, we are happy to support one or more interns with their studies. They spend six months with our team and get the chance to see how we work and learn by doing, or they work on their graduation project. We invest a lot of time in finding the right match because during their time with us, they truly become part of the team.
Discover how Nigel experienced his internship at Okapion in an interview we had with him after his internship was completed.
Nigel did an excellent job as an intern. He showed that he was eager to learn by trying, making mistakes, gathering feedback, critically assessing himself, and then improving. He was always open, curious, and always ready for a joke.
While we look for certain qualities in an intern, the same goes the other way around. Interns also need a place that fits their goals and where they feel at home. A good environment makes it easier to learn by asking questions and observing.
So at the end of his internship, we sat down with Nigel to evaluate ourselves as well. Time to hear from him how he experienced it.
What did you expect from your internship at Okapion?
My expectation was a top-quality agency with expertise in large, complex projects. That expectation was completely met!
How did you find your place as an intern within Okapion?
I was welcomed with a T-shirt featuring the Okapion logo. It felt right immediately. Everyone in the team is happy to help you become a better designer.
What was the craziest or funniest moment?
The craziest was the Christmas party. We all wore crazy outfits and participated in an online music quiz together.
How did you find the projects you worked on?
Together with my mentor Dave, I chose projects that aligned with my learning goals. Okapion closely looked at what I wanted to learn and found suitable assignments. You get the freedom to explore and take initiatives but also receive feedback and attention when needed.
How did the online collaboration go?
It went smoothly. We kept in touch through Slack and talked to someone every day. It's not only about projects; there is also time to catch up over a cup of coffee.
How would you describe Okapion?
Okapion is a UX agency focused on solving complex user challenges. The team is small and consists of passionate UX designers.
Not unimportant, how is the atmosphere?
The atmosphere is excellent. Okapion truly feels like a family.

What is your golden tip for students seeking an internship?
Searching for an internship can be exciting and sometimes take a while. Many students need to approach many companies before they succeed. My tip is: try something other than email. I got to know Okapion through a lesson at school. Someone from Okapion came by, and the teacher asked who wanted to show their portfolio. It was quiet for a moment, but I decided to do it. That bit of courage eventually gave me the chance for an internship at Okapion.
